Essential rosemary oil from Rosmarinus Officinalis originates from Tunisia and is extracted via steam distillation from flowering tops. The scent is woody and herbal and is used in aromatherapy to refresh and stimulate the mind.

For massage, rosemary oil is often blended with one or two base oils, such as almond oil, apricot kernel oil, or hazelnut oil. For hair, it is said to contribute to increased circulation in the scalp and promote hair growth.

Rosemary was well-known and used in the Old World. It was believed to improve memory, so it became a symbol of fidelity and was used at weddings, funerals, and other religious ceremonies. A sprig of rosemary was beautifully tied with ribbon and given to wedding guests as a symbol of love and loyalty. "Hungarian Water," which was prepared from fresh rosemary tops soaked in wine for a few days, was made for the Queen of Hungary and is said to have cured her of paralysis.
