Deep and earthy patchouli scent for aromatherapy

Essential patchouli oil from Pogostemon cablin, in the mint family, originates in Indonesia and is extracted through steam distillation of dried leaves. The plant is also native to Malaysia and India, where it is called puchaput. The name patchouli comes from the Tamil word pachchaiilai and means green leaf.

Patchouli oil has a rich, musky, sweet, and spicy scent. The young leaves are dried and fermented before steam distillation, and the oil is said to develop its scent and character over time. It has traditionally been appreciated in skincare, including for use on scars.

In Eastern countries, patchouli oil has traditionally been used in potpourri and sachets between linens and clothes, both for its scent and to keep bed bugs and insects away. The scent is associated with emotional balance and a loving atmosphere.

In aromatherapy, patchouli oil is associated with a calming and grounding feeling, as well as for use during times of anxiety and low mood.
