Neroli oil is produced from the blossoms of the bitter orange tree, Citrus aurantium var. amara, also known as Neroli bigarade. The oil has elegant features that smell similar to bergamot. The blossoms are carefully picked by hand and the oil is produced through gentle water distillation, as the delicate petals are too fragile for standard steam distillation.

Neroli oil is a deeply appreciated essential oil thanks to its wonderful scent and its traditionally described properties. It is associated with a very calming, luxurious, and harmonious character in the room. A few drops of this ready-made blend can be advantageously warmed in an aroma lamp or diffuser in a room for pleasant relaxation, meditation, and recovery.

Neroli oil is believed to have been used as early as Roman times. In 1680, Anna Maria Orsini, Princess of Nerola, used the essence of the bitter orange tree to perfume her gloves and her bath, thus creating a new fashionable fragrance trend. From this time on, the exclusive essential oil became known as neroli after her. Folklore also tells that the beautiful orange blossoms were traditionally used to decorate bridal beds as part of romantic traditions to help newlyweds relax. The oil is very expensive to produce and great care is taken during the harvest because the flowers must be picked exactly when they bloom.
