Essential frankincense oil from Boswellia carterii originates from Oman and is extracted through steam distillation of resin. The product is diluted to 5 percent in grapeseed oil.

Frankincense oil, also known as olibanum, is extracted from the Boswellia carterii tree in the Burseraceae family. The word frankincense comes from the French franc, meaning abundant or lush. Together with myrrh, the resin was one of the first to be used as incense. The tree is native to the Middle East and is said to grow in a natural bonsai form in the arid landscape. Frankincense has traditionally been associated with divinity.

Frankincense oil is highly valued in aromatherapy for its soothing scent. It has traditionally been used in connection with wounds, scars, facial care, wrinkles, and stretch marks. 

Ancient Egyptians burned frankincense as sacred incense and used it as a face mask. They ground the burnt resin into a powder called kohl, which was used to accentuate the eyes. Kohl-lined eyes are often seen in Egyptian art. The earliest documented use of frankincense was found in a 15th-century BC tomb inscription belonging to the Egyptian Queen Hatshepsut. The resin was used to smoke out the sick and drive away evil spirits.
