Lemongrass oil is extracted from Cymbopogon citratus, also known as "oil grass," from fresh or partially dried leaves through steam distillation and originates from Guatemala. The oil has a fresh, citrus-like, and aromatic scent. It is said to help counteract fatigue and refresh a tired body and mind. It is also a fragrant way to keep a pet free from fleas and ticks. Lemongrass contains citral, which provides the main flavor in lemon peel.

Lemongrass oil is also known as Indian verbena or Indian melissa oil and is used in Ayurveda, the ancient traditional system of medicine.
