Warm and woody scent reminiscent of sandalwood

Amyris essential oil from Amyris balsamifera, extracted via steam distillation from wood and branches. The oil is also known as West Indian sandalwood oil because the scent resembles sandalwood. Due to the high oil content of the wood, it can burn on its own, like a candle, and is therefore called candle wood by the local population. Amyris is a more affordable alternative to true sandalwood.

Amyris oil has traditionally been used in aromatic blends, skincare routines, and aroma diffusers. The soft, calming scent is also suitable for relaxing and meditation-inspired moments. In diluted skincare blends, the oil is appreciated for its softening feel.

Amyris balsamifera grows wild in Haiti. The botanical origin of the tree was unknown until 1886, when the differences between this plant and true sandalwood were identified through microscopic examinations of the leaves. Essential oils have been highly valued throughout history for their aromatic properties.
