Essential ravintsara oil from Ravensara Aromatica originates in Madagascar and is extracted through steam distillation of leaves.

Ravintsara oil is traditionally associated with antiseptic, antibacterial, and antiviral properties. In aromatherapy, it has been used in contexts related to the airways and excess mucus and secretions.

The most important chemical compounds in essential ravintsara oil are estragole, approximately 80 percent, methyl eugenol, 8.5 percent, and limonene, 3 percent.

Estragole is associated with use in connection with fatigue, stress, sleep, headaches, cognitive function, and mood.

Limonene is associated with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties as well as general well-being.

Ravintsara oil has traditionally been used in connection with a feeling of catching a cold. A few drops in a relaxing bath can provide a pleasant aromatherapy experience.
