Essential mandarin oil is extracted from Citrus reticulata by cold pressing the fruit peel. Mandarin petitgrain oil is also produced in smaller quantities through steam distillation of the leaves and twigs. The oil is golden yellow to orange and has a fragrance reminiscent of fresh oranges. Mandarin is a collective term for several citrus fruits, including Satsuma, Clementine, Dancy, Honey, Pixie, and tangerines.

Mandarin oil is a mild and easy-to-use citrus oil suitable for aromatic blends, baths, and oil burners. It can contribute to a sense of warmth, calm, and uplifting energy in everyday life.

Mandarins are said to have been named because they were traditionally given as gifts to the mandarins of China. The mandarin orange originally comes from southern China and the Far East and was brought to Europe in 1805 and to America in 1845.
