SAMELIN is a company with a tradition of long-term shoe production based on Estonian capital. In 1945, four small companies merged in Tartu: "Framtiden", "Koondis", "Samhället", and "Gemensamma tillgångar", and the merged entity was named the Leather and Shoe Combination (NJK).

During the first years of operation, there were also horsehair and leather goods industries, alongside shoes. Notably, NJK initiated the production of sports shoes in Estonia in the early 1980s.

From 1990–1994, the company was named RAS ELKAR, which was formed by AS SAMELIN, owned by the company's employees. AS SAMELIN commenced operations on February 7, 1994. The company's first valuable experience was collaboration with companies in Italy, Finland, and Norway, where it acquired skills to produce high-quality, technically specialized shoes.

Currently, the company's main goal is the manufacturing and distribution of SAMELIN brand shoes. The product range includes work and safety shoes, ski and hiking boots, as well as everyday footwear for the entire family.

Nowadays, 70% of the company's production consists of deliveries to Finnish, Norwegian, Swedish, and Danish companies, as well as a range of various work and safety jobs for Scandinavian companies.

Samelin AS was awarded the title "Defence Industrial Company of the Year 2017".
