Ylang Ylang means "flower of flowers" and has been used for centuries in tropical areas of Asia, including the Philippines, Indonesia, and the Polynesian islands. The flowers were and are still traditionally used in Indonesia to decorate the beds of newlyweds on their wedding night due to their uplifting and aphrodisiac properties.

Ylang Ylang is considered to have mood-enhancing, calming, antidepressant, beautifying, and aphrodisiac properties. It is believed to be beneficial for the immune system, the cardiovascular system, and the endocrine system, while also being said to help the body relax and release the mind from negative emotions. Ylang Ylang essential oil is also said to be used for pain, inflammation, mood, and libido. Furthermore, Ylang Ylang is said to function as a natural insect repellent, promote wound healing, and reduce the visibility of scars when applied to the skin.
