Red thyme essential oil from Thymus serpyllum originates from Spain and is extracted through steam distillation from the leaves. The oil has a warm, herbal scent and is said to have stimulating as well as antimicrobial and antiseptic properties.

In aromatherapy, red thyme essential oil has a wide range of uses.

It is primarily used in aroma diffusers, room sprays, and mist sprays, especially during the main cold and flu season. When used topically, it is said to help keep insects away.
